Before you go hunting regulated game animals such as rabbit and squirrel, check your state's hunting regulations. Some states do not permit hunting of regulated game with slings, slingshots, or blowguns. If you are a good enough shot, and the slingshot has enough power, you can kill small game with your slingshot regardless of the lack of a wrist brace. Slingshots were around a long time before someone came up with the bright idea of a wrist brace. As for your ammo selection, I'd suggest you do some comparison shopping. Compare the price of "Slingshot Ammunition," ball bearings, and ,375" or .380" swaged lead balls for a .36 caliber muzzle-loader. If you can find a reliable source of old wheel weights, you might even consider buying a .375" mold and casting your own pellets. Doc
