Did you know bowling first had it's origins way back in 3200BC in Egypt? Yes, the Egyptians weren't just good architects but they had a talent on the bowling alley too.

So what makes a good player? Is it the equipment, the ball, the clothes and shoes they wear or does none of that matter and it comes down to sheer ability. Seriously, it's definitely got more to do with ability but use faulty equipment and it could mean the difference between hitting 200 in a game.

Ten Pin Bowling

Ten pin bowling is obviously the game most know and see. It has plenty of television coverage and in the United States for example, has become a past time for many families. It's not just a time to dig deep and find that competitive spirit - bowling is also a great social sporting game and one of the reasons it's so popular.

Bowling Surface

The bowling surface has undergone some changes since those early days of the Egyptians. Actually, we are not quite sure what surface they used back then but we do know that surface wood dominated the platform that balls were bowled down on. This has since changed.

In fact, technology has definitely crept it's tentacles into all facets of bowling and it has extended to the surface where materials that imitate the old surfaces are now being used.

The Bowling Ball

The material employed in making the bowling ball has changed. Originally, this was made out of wood. The most frequently used balls in bowling alleys are made of hard rubber. They come in several weights so that players of all ages can play this game.

Customized balls are ones made according to the player's specs. Custom made balls are for major bowlers, particularly people who are in contests. They come in several colors and designs. There are also those that are clear which are painted in a way that makes it appear that there's a figure or an object within the ball. A bowling ball can be held in alternative ways.

#1...The 1st is known as the conventional grip where the bowler's middle and ring fingers are placed into the ball holes up to the second joint.

#2...The second is called the finger tip grip. Here, the middle and the ring fingers are placed in the holes up to the 1st joint. More effort is needed by the second, but it gives the player better control when the ball is released.

#3...The 3rd is known as the Sarge-Easter Grip. Again the middle and the ring fingers are used but in contrast to the other 2, both fingers occupy one hole which works really well with players with high "rev" rates.

The style used to hold and release the bowling ball varies among players. It's best to experiment with the different types of grips so you know which one works best for you. Bowling is a fun sport that needs hand and eye coordination like basketball or soccer. Getting the right bowling ball will help the player feel comfy - a right step in making the necessary improvement to be very competitive at bowling.

Bowling is one of the best ways to improve fitness and coordination while having fun with your family and friends. It's a lot more than simply throwing a heavy ball down a long corridor...it's one of the most complicated and competitive sports around. By learning to master the top-ten techniques of bowling, you'll gain confidence, have more fun, and beat the competition!

The top 10 bowling techniques:

1. Have perfect Posture

In bowling, posture counts! Keep your head up, looking straight at your target. Your shoulders should remain square to the foul line, especially through the swing.

2. Grip the ball properly

If you use a house ball, make sure the thumbhole is loose fitting. The thumb frequently swells a little during bowling and if you're forcing your fingers into the holes before you bowl, they're likely to get stuck! If you have your own ball, have your pro shop custom drill your finger holes. If your thumb routinely swells, wrapping it in bowler's tape can help. If your hands sweat, be sure to carry a towel to wipe them on and then dust your hands with a little rosin. If you have a hard time gripping the ball, your pro shop can insert grips into the finger holes.

3. Remember where you are

If you're right handed, a good place to start is 2 arrows right of the middle. If you're left handed, start 2 arrows to the left of center. Adjust your position right or left after you have bowled a couple of balls, depending on where your ball ended up.

4. Focus on your target

Decide where you're going to aim. If it's your first ball, aim to bowl just to the right of the 1 (front) pin if you're right handed or to the left of it if you're left handed.

5. Breathe

Relax yourself by taking three slow, deep breaths. It's common to feel anxious before bowling... but the calmer you are, the more control you will have over your ball.

6. Smooth moves

The way you carry yourself to bowl decides the speed and power of your ball. Position yourself so you will take four consistently paced steps to throw the ball.

7. Slow down!

One of the most common traits beginning bowlers have in common is to rush. It's important to have some speed to deliver the ball correctly, but too much speed is the #1 reason for both gutter balls and 7-10 splits in beginning bowlers!

8. Maintain your balance

Be sure to stay upright and focused on your target as you approach the foul line. Keep your shoulders square as you use your leg as a counterweight to keep your balance during the release.

9. Release the ball

Keeping your arm slightly bent at the elbow, retract your arm behind your body, cradling the ball in your hand. Keep a smooth straight arc from back to front. Be careful of arcing around your body and back...that's a common habit in many new bowlers! At the low point of your swing, release the ball. A relaxed arm and wrist make for an effective shot!

10. Follow through

Keep your target in sight and your arm continuing its arc forward even after the ball has been released. Just "letting the ball go" and pulling your arm back will cause the ball to roll off-course.

The most important thing to remember when learning to bowl is to have FUN! By learning proper bowling techniques you will make the game much more enjoyable for yourself and for those who bowl with you.

Finding weight of bowling ball. Physics problem. need help asap!?

A bowling ball weighs 40 N when suspended in a container of oil of density 700 kg/m cubed. Find its weight when weighed outside the container. Its volume is 9 x 10^-4 m cubed.

Its weight will be more by the amount of force of buoyancy experienced by it in oil
= weight of oil displaced
= volume x density x 9.8
= 9 x 10^(-4) x 700 x 9.8 N
= 6.174 N
=> weight of ball outside the container
= 40 + 6.174
= 46.174 N.

Keeping score in a game of bowling may seem complicated, but it really just comes down to adding up the number of pins each player knocks down. Each frame, a player has two opportunities to knock down ten pins. A game consists of ten frames, and the player with the highest score at the end of the tenth frame, wins.

If you are bowling at an alley without a scoring computer, you'll probably be given a paper scoresheet. Before you start playing, record each players name in the appropriate area of the scoresheet. The pins that are knocked down on a player's first attempt are counted and recorded. The mechanical pin setter then removes the standing pins, clears the knocked-down pins, and then returns the remaining pins.

The player then takes their second attempt, and any additional pins that are knocked down are counted and added to the first. The score from both attempts is first added together, and then to any previous scores, to calculate the running score for the frame. Most scoresheets have a small area in each frame to record the number of pins knocked down in each of the first and second attempts. The running total is then written in the larger area of the scoresheet.

For example:

If a player knocks down six pins on their first attempt, and then two pins on their second attempt, then they've scored an 8 on the first frame. In the second frame, if that player knocks down seven pins on their first attempt, and one pin on their second attempt, then their total score is now 16.

Players score bonus points when they knock down all ten pins in a frame, by either bowling a strike or a spare. The number of bonus points depends not only on whether a strike or spare was bowled, but also on the player's performance with the next 1 or 2 balls.

You score a strike when you knock down all ten pins on the first ball of the frame. To record a strike, mark an X for that frame; their score will be the ten pins of the strike plus any pins knocked down on two balls of the next frame. (You delay recording the score for that frame until the next one is completed).

After a strike, the next frame should be scored as usual. If the player bowls a second strike, scoring will need to be delayed until the next frame. The pins knocked down with that ball are added to the 10 from each strike.

A player that knocks down all 10 pins with their second ball is scored as rolling a spare.

To record a spare, mark a/ in that frame. The score for the frame is the 10 pins knocked down plus the number of pins knocked down on the first ball of the following frame. Bowling scores accumulate each frame until 10 frames are completed. If, in the tenth frame, a bowler rolls a strike or a spare, they are allowed bonus balls to determine their score.

Once each player has finished the ten frames, the resulting highest score determines the winner.

Why do people constantly use win loss record to decide if a QB is good?

Kyle Orton's career record is over .500, Trent Dilfer and Doug Willams both won a Super Bowl. Football is the ultimate team game and it is possible for an average or below average QB to "lead" his team to victory especially when you have a good defense and running game. You have to do more then not screw up to be a good QB

The main reason is that overall team reults are all that really matters. It can sometimes cause a QB to be over rated though.

Excited to purchase your first bowling ball? Before you do so, you need to consider several basic tips to eventually purchase a one that suits you needs. Bowling balls are made up of different types of material; some are plastic, other polyester rubber or urethane. Follow on the tips below as you have just started learning how to bowl.

For a beginner bowler, many recommend the plastic bowling ball which is usually the least costly and can last for a long time. However, bowlers with more experience prefer bowling balls made up of polyester as it reacts differently and can be handled to suit their moves and spins. After choosing what type of ball you need, you also need to consider another important evaluation factor which is the bowling ball's weight.

As you saw the neighboring bowler continuously bowl strikes with a hook, you want to learn how to do that as well. Well pro bowlers recommend that the bowling is almost 10% of the bowler's total weight. However, the bowler usually needs a ball which is slightly less than that.

A recommended way to test your ball's weight is to actually try on different weight and see if the bowling ball's weight is a weight you could handle. Start with the smaller ones and later start adding a pound until you reach to the maximum endurance point where you could go for the one with the pound less or pound more. Choosing the right bowling ball is your first step to start practicing techniques like hook bowling.

After setting your mind on the material and weight, you need to now consider the the brand. To do so, you may access many reviews online which could be highly informative for you. Popular brands are usually directly marketed for by the store owner and even if you had no clue whatsoever about the bowling sport and gear, you usually tell which one is the most popular according to its market price.

We have taken the time to write a few different brands down for you to have a quick look and get informed before accessing the nearest store. Brunswick Scorchin Inferno is one of the popular and best selling bowling balls. It is commonly known to be a high performance ball. Columbia Action Packed is another high performance ball which is usually the choice of intermediate to pro bowlers. Elite R43 is another popular choice which performs well on different types of lanes; both light and heavy oil conditions.

Although some bowlers never do purchase their own, getting one during each and every stage of your bowling path is highly recommended. One of the most convenient reasons is because you would not have to worry about picking a bowling ball every time and actually trying out if the finger holes are comfortable to handle or if the ball is too heavy. And once you make your decision and order your ball, remember to take good care of it.

Where do i get cheap bowling balls in singapore?

I am a beginner in bowling and am looking for my own ball. a pro shop is offering me a polyester ball at 0.
should i buy that? or should i scout around for other balls?
I am looking for a 11-12 pound ball.
i dont mind second hand balls either. any websites/forums selling 2nd hand balls? checked yahoo auctions but not sure if they suit me.
would the ball's performance change if it had been replugged?

Why do Nuns save their old bowling balls in Singapore? To make Rosary Beads for the elephants.

= 46.174 N.

[phpzon]bowling, 30, SportingGoods[/phpzon]

If you have your own ball, have your pro shop custom drill your finger holes. If your thumb routinely swells, wrapping it in bowler's tape can help. If your hands sweat, be sure to carry a towel to wipe them on and then dust your hands with a little rosin.
6. Smooth moves

The way you carry yourself to bowl decides the speed and power of your ball. Position yourself so you will take four consistently paced steps to throw the ball.

7. Slow down!

= 46.174 N.

= 46.174 N.

[phpzon]bowling, 30, SportingGoods[/phpzon]

As in any sports, you will need the appropriate attire to accompany your sports. Bowling is no difference, bowling shoes are special shoes worn when bowling. They are one of the most comfortable sports shoes I know and often very light. This is important as you do not want to be dragging your shoe weight when bowling. If you pay attention to bowling techniques and etiquettes, the sports is similar to ballet dancing.

Ballet requires you to be lightweight, flexible and comfortable in your posture when dancing. The same with bowling, you need all the three elements to have a good bowl. Wearing the right accessories and shoes can make a huge impact on your performance in bowling. The most distinct feature that separates bowling shoes from other sports or athletics shoes is the distinctive smooth sole. The manufacturers of these shoes have the users in mind when they produce the designs. They wanted to ensure that the users of these shoes are comfortable throughout their game.

Bowling shoes ensures enhanced support and comfort while bowling. The top part of the shoe is made of leather micro fibre and the heels are made of firmed rubber. The inner soles are cushioned, the interiors are lined and elastic straps used. You can chose from a wide selection of colours and styles to match whatever you are wearing. The most important thing is you will still feel comfortable while playing.

You will be surprised that in each pair of bowling shoes, the shoe has different functions. Their designs are in accordance to the requirements of a right handed and left handed bowlers. One shoe is for sliding and the other pair is for braking. The one on the sliding or the left foot is normally meant for right handed bowlers and the right foot for the left handed bowlers. These shoes are soled with leather or similar materials for easy sliding and delivery during play.

There are a few things you need to take note of when buying a pair of bowling shoes. Different suppliers offered different types of features and comfort level on their shoes. You really need to know what you are after as there are many styles you can choose from. These shoes are designed specially for both right and left handed bowlers.

Taking care of your shoes by checking on it regularly will ensure that the shoe is in good condition for a long time. Bowling shoes is one of the most fashionable items of today and have become casual shoes in most people's daily attire.

What is a good bowling shoes for left handed bowlers? His average is between 190-200?

Does not matter. All manufacturers such as Linds, Dexter, Brunswick, Circle, Dynothane, etc, make quality bowling shoes. I use Dexter VI's, and are the most comfortable shoes around. Just take your time in searching. Many shoes go for different prices. Good luck!
