Did you know bowling first had it's origins way back in 3200BC in Egypt? Yes, the Egyptians weren't just good architects but they had a talent on the bowling alley too.

So what makes a good player? Is it the equipment, the ball, the clothes and shoes they wear or does none of that matter and it comes down to sheer ability. Seriously, it's definitely got more to do with ability but use faulty equipment and it could mean the difference between hitting 200 in a game.

Ten Pin Bowling

Ten pin bowling is obviously the game most know and see. It has plenty of television coverage and in the United States for example, has become a past time for many families. It's not just a time to dig deep and find that competitive spirit - bowling is also a great social sporting game and one of the reasons it's so popular.

Bowling Surface

The bowling surface has undergone some changes since those early days of the Egyptians. Actually, we are not quite sure what surface they used back then but we do know that surface wood dominated the platform that balls were bowled down on. This has since changed.

In fact, technology has definitely crept it's tentacles into all facets of bowling and it has extended to the surface where materials that imitate the old surfaces are now being used.

The Bowling Ball

The material employed in making the bowling ball has changed. Originally, this was made out of wood. The most frequently used balls in bowling alleys are made of hard rubber. They come in several weights so that players of all ages can play this game.

Customized balls are ones made according to the player's specs. Custom made balls are for major bowlers, particularly people who are in contests. They come in several colors and designs. There are also those that are clear which are painted in a way that makes it appear that there's a figure or an object within the ball. A bowling ball can be held in alternative ways.

#1...The 1st is known as the conventional grip where the bowler's middle and ring fingers are placed into the ball holes up to the second joint.

#2...The second is called the finger tip grip. Here, the middle and the ring fingers are placed in the holes up to the 1st joint. More effort is needed by the second, but it gives the player better control when the ball is released.

#3...The 3rd is known as the Sarge-Easter Grip. Again the middle and the ring fingers are used but in contrast to the other 2, both fingers occupy one hole which works really well with players with high "rev" rates.

The style used to hold and release the bowling ball varies among players. It's best to experiment with the different types of grips so you know which one works best for you. Bowling is a fun sport that needs hand and eye coordination like basketball or soccer. Getting the right bowling ball will help the player feel comfy - a right step in making the necessary improvement to be very competitive at bowling.

i need to buy a gold ten pin bowling ball ?

I live in the UK so preferably from here, any ideas where i could purchase one???

Check on EBay because Brunswick Bowling manufactured a "gold" colored bowling ball called the "Rhino". I had a gold colored one that was plastic and used for spares, but am sure they made a "Rhino Pro" model that had a urethane coverstock.

Good luck in your search!

You may have recently seen some fitness trainers in the park swinging a funny round weight with a handle. Perhaps you saw a segment on the news talking about this thing called kettlebell training and wasn't sure what to make of it. Well one thing is for sure, although kettlebell training is new to some people, it is really starting to take off, largely thanks to American based Russian strength coach Pavel Tsatsouline's efforts.

What exactly is a kettlebell you may ask? A kettlebell is an old style type of weight training equipment that resembles an iron bowling ball with a thick handle.

Used previously by old time strong men and popularised by Russian athletes, the kettlebell is now used by top sports teams, martial artists, athletes, Hollywood celebrities and everyday trainers throughout the world, due to the outstanding results people are getting.

The foundation kettlebell exercise is the kettlebell swing. The kettlebell swing can be performed either one handed or two handed and basically involves using your posterior chain (ie, your core, back, hamstrings and hips) to swing the kettlebell out in front of you and then in between your legs in a fast continuous pendulum type motion. Although kettle bell swings appear easy the following great benefits can be achieved by utilizing them in your workouts.

1). Workout efficiency is a key benefit of training with kettlebell swings as they enable you to combine resistance training and cardio training in one power packed workout.

2). Swings develop the important posterior chain muscles of the body such as the hamstrings, glutes and back. These muscles are often overlooked with traditional weight training but they are crucial for a large number of sports as these muscles are heavily involved in sprinting, jumping and tackling movements.

3). Kettlebell swings provide an extreme cardio conditioning option that is easy on knees that have suffered over the years from too much running. Swings are a perfect choice for extreme cardio workouts, whether done heavy with brief Tabata style swings working 20 seconds and resting 10 seconds or just doing swing intervals for 10 - 20 minutes on the minute with a heavy kettlebell.

4). Swings work the abs and strengthen the core muscles as they provide a stable platform for other muscles to pull from. Traditional crunches are useless and do nothing for you, hit your abs with functional abdominal training that actually has benefit in the real world.

5). Swings build your back from top to bottom. Not only is the lower back involved with kettlebell swings but the lats, traps and scapular are all involved in the movement giving you a total back training workout.

6). High rep swings also develop back endurance which Professor Stuart McGill a leading spine/back expert considers has a very positive effect on the reduction of back injuries.

7). Swings are a fantastic conditioner and body fat burner. More and more studies are concluding that greater body fat burning occurs when training is performed at higher intensity levels rather than long slow endurance type training.

These are only some of the benefits a program of kettlebell swings can provide. Although it sounds too good to be true there is a downside of kettlebell swings ... they are hard work. However, if you build into your program gradually, a program based around kettlebell swing movements will provide fantastic workouts to get you fit, lean and healthy in a surprisingly short amount of time.

If this article has inspired you to look into kettlebell training further and you want to know where to get kettlebells and kettlebell information, then this website is a good source of information on kettlebells

How do you go about buying a bowling ball?

I am buying on for my husband as a gift. Do you buy bowling balls with the holes already drilled in them or not? Can't he get it to costom fit him personally? Any good stores that I should try?

A great deal of this depends on if your husband is an experienced bowler. If he is, than getting him a ball isn't something you should do, although a wonderful gesture, good bowlers would have something specific in mind when getting a new ball.

If he is not an experienced bowler then a bowling ally pro shop is a good place to start. You can get personalized bowling balls with a variety of cartoon characters, cute faces, or whatever fun stuff on them. It can get kinda fairly personalized and be pretty fun.

As far as getting finger holes drilled you should probably wait until after you give it to him later on. The pro shop will fit the finger holes specifically to his fingers and thumb. In most cases the pro shop will drill the finger holes for free if you've bought the ball in that shop

Elite Red Alien Bowling Ball?

Does any body have any complaints on it i mean i want to buy it but i read that it will run out curve or whatever from to much oil is that true? And maybe were i Can Get A Cheap One Besides Ebay Thank You.

If you use a very aggressive ball on dry lanes (not enough oil), the friction will slow down or stop the rotation of the ball so it won't hook (curve) very much.

As for where to get them, I'd say your pro shop would be your best bet. Elite isn't the biggest or most popular company out there so I think you'll have to do a little searching around.

Ten Pin Bowling

Ten pin bowling is obviously the game most know and see. It has plenty of television coverage and in the United States for example, has become a past time for many families.

Elite isn't the biggest or most popular company out there so I think you'll have to do a little searching around.

i need to buy a gold ten pin bowling ball ?

Mike Capper is a RKC kettlebell instructor based in New Zealand. His website KettleBells NZ is fast becoming an authority website on kettlebell training and is packed with many useful articles.

Bowling balls are normally made out of urethane, rubber, plastic or reactive resin materials. And depending on the kind of game being played, they may or may not be equipped with holes. A ten-pin bowling ball weighs about six to 16 pounds while the five-pin bowling ball, on the other hand, weighs no more four pounds and doesn't have finger holes. To be more effective in a game, some bowlers, particularly professionals, normally opt to have theirs custom-made, weighing in proportion to their heights and weights and with finger holes customized to fit.

Kinds of bowling balls

A bowling ball can be one of six kinds: ten-pin, five-pin, plastic, urethane, reactive resin, and particle. The ten-pins are 8.5 inches in diameter. Made out of different materials, some can even be hollow with outer crack- and split-resistant shells. The five-pins, on the other hand, are smaller, having 5-inch diameters. The plastic ones are made of polyester coverstock, inexpensive, durable, and are best for beginners while the urethanes offer less deflection and more friction albeit being made of a softer material. Reactive resins are made up of particles that make them stickier than the other balls. However, they do have better lane grips and high hook potential although they roll faster on oiled lanes. The particle balls have the same materials as the reactive resins except ground glass pieces are mixed in, adding grit for better lane grip.

When buying bowling balls, avoid those that have surface cracks because this affects how your ball will roll on a lane. As for weight, choose one that is proportional to your arm and upper body strength. Average adults should consider 10- to 14-pound balls while children can use six to 10-pound ones.
